Animation

The 2D animation in Love Struck was done by awardwinning animator Joseph Wallace. Joseph became involved in the project after the director Leyla Pope saw his animated film The Man Who Was Afraid of Falling. Leyla and Joseph wanted the animation to look simple, as if I child could have drawn it. They then decided that the drawn aesthetic should filter into the live-action so Joseph also provided illustrations which were then replicated on set.

Joseph animated all of the sequences traditionally which meant drawing each frame by hand, twelve frames per second; in total there were hundreds of drawings. Each drawing was scanned and arranged on computer before the post-production team composited them into the film footage.
